Father Dumitru Stăniloae is certainly
the greatest Orthodox theologian of today. (Olivier Clément) DUMITRU STĂNILOAE was born in 1903 in Vlădeni, a village close to Braşov, in Romania. After his studies of literature and theology in Cernăti, Bucharest and Athens, he married Maria Mihu and in 1932 he was ordained priest in Romanien Orthodox Church. He was a prolife writer, gifted teacher and rector of the Theological Academy in Sibiu, yet under the communist regime he had to renounce to his position and years between 1958 and 1963 he spent in prison. The last three decades of his life Stăniloae dedicated to writing, translating and teaching. He died in 1993.
THE WORK of Dumitru Stăniloae is immense. He wrote and published over a period of more than 60 years. The bibliography of his writings lists: 90 books, 33 translations, 275 articles, 437 short journalistic articles and many others texts.
